How to Perfectly Layer Your Fall Outfits

As summer turns to fall, the cooler weather brings ample opportunities to add layers like sweaters and jackets to your outfits.

Don’t sacrifice style for comfort during the colder seasons, step up your personal style and experiment with layering and allowing three or even more pieces to battle the cold in style.

Autumn and winter are the ideal seasons to mix and match clothes and get creative. It’s common during these seasons to have to remove or add some layers because of an upswing in temperature in autumn or when inside a well-heated building in the winter.

Below are tips to ensure that you stay comfortable and stylish when layering your fall outfits.

Your Fall Outfit Becomes the Sum of its Parts

Layering has been a common practice in men's fashion for years. It’s a convenient styling technique allowing people to shift between cold and warmer environments with ease, removing or adding garment layers as and when needed. This especially applies in the fall which is a tricky time of the year when it is neither too cold to wear full winter clothes, but summer outfits are no longer suitable for the cold and wet weather.

In winter, on the other hand, wearing a coat every single day may become boring and tedious. Layering cannot be done randomly. You have to make sure that all of the clothes you are wearing look great together and also as standalone pieces. In winter, the combination of a turtleneck knit top, paired with a sport jacket create a classic comfortable layered look. For fall outfits, you may create appealing casual combinations by replacing the turtleneck sweater with our Novak Knit Shirt.

Layering From Thin to Thick

Layering clothes in cold seasons generally consists of three layers: the base layer, the middle layer and the outer layer. It’s more convenient to have your thinnest garment, such as a Barakett Tee, as your base garment. It also should be made of breathable fabric such as our 100% Pima cotton, to deal with moisture removal and keep you warm at the same time.

The final outer layer should be the thickest one, trapping the heat and protecting from rain, wind and very cold temperatures simultaneously. Logically, if the environment becomes warmer, you may easily remove the outer layer without compromising the style of your outfit. An example of an effective layering style can be a jacket, overcoat or a padded parka, over our Mosley Hoodie worn on top of your T-shirt.

Be Mindful of the Color Situation

One of the biggest issues when layering clothes is the color puzzle. When numerous garments are mixed, the risk of color clashing is greater. As a result, it’s crucial to ensure that the colors you are choosing complement each other. Lucky for you, the Robert Barakett Fall 2022 collection offers a wide variety of garments in complementary colors suitable for layering. You may create depth by matching various hues of the same color. Or, you may keep the colors tonal by mixing greys, blacks and whites. We look forward to helping you create the perfect fall outfit today!
